SPARKLE: More Spolied Polishes

I am so pleased to be able to try Spoiled and Sinful Colors nail polishes FINALLY. Today I have swatches of another couple of the Spoiled ones I picked up. First up is Plenty of Fish in the Sea...

This shade is a gorgeous shimmery blue. I had no issues with application or chipping. This was 2 coats without a top coat. I just love this polish!

The next one is Distant Memory which is a beautiful green with a matte finish (which you can see on the bottle tip swatch). Given it was summer though I decided to do a layer of China Glaze's Snow Globe over the top. Me loves!

These polishes are so easy to apply and last really well. I wish I had picked up more when I was in the US, cos you know... I need more polish in my life!

NOTD: China Glaze's Ruby Pumps

I'm not sure if I have mentioned on here previously that I hate hype. When something is "must have" and everyone is going bonkers over it I walk in the other direction as quickly as possible. It's fair to say that this polish has a lot of hype surrounding it and being that I am actually not a fan of red polish generally (I blame the 80s) I had very little interest in Ruby Pumps. I was also under the impression from swatches that this was a glitter. So

1. I was wrong - this is not a glitter
2. this is a very pretty polish - even when you aren't a fan of red.

This polish is a bit of a perfect storm:

• China Glaze brushes and bottles are great.
• The formula on this one is easy to apply and opaque in 2 coats.
• It wears really well. Mine didn't chip for at least 3-4 days.
• The shimmer particles you see in the bottle totally translate to the nail.

So in summary - love this polish, it's worth every penny and it's a hyped product for good reason - it's gorgeous.

A tale of Hauling and a girl called Jac.

Let me tell you a story. It's a story of a girl (me) who likes to spend money on sparkly things. And along the way I found a lot of little things to pick up and share with you.

So firstly I went to Priceline where they had a 3 for the price of two special on Bourjois.

Next I went past Kmart and they had some pretty nail polishes from Face of Australia's Molten Metallic collection. So I got 3 for myself...

Excited by nail polish purchases at Kmart I came home and made more...um...nail polish purchases online. This time from the China Glaze and Color Club Summer Collection releases.

Satisfied with my purchases I then decided to rest.

A few days later at work I was offered the opportunity to do some higher duties which I happily accepted. The bonus being that my fortnightly salary goes up significantly during this time. So in a plan hatched between T and I we decided to split the spoils of my first increased pay. 

Around the same time as this was happening, I went into Mecca where I had some Nars foundation and blush applied. I was immediately put off by the prices though with the foundation being $99 alone.

Hours or days later I became aware that I could order the same items from KissandMakeupny for a fraction of the price and enjoy their capped $9.95 shipping rate. So I did...

Because I managed to acquire these items at US prices online I had moneys left over to spend on myself. I decided it was finally time to try another mail redirection service in HopShopGo and order from Sephora (can you hear the angels singing when I type that or is that just me?)

Now let's face it - if you are ordering from Sephora then there must be one item on your list...

Now this is where things start to get stupid. I happen to be born on the same day as T and this year that day also happened to be Mother's Day.

So after getting all of that stuff in came the Birthday/Mother's Day pressies. Thankfully some were gift vouchers -HopShopGo from Dee and Steggers, while T gave me one for David Jones (which I used last weekend - but I haven't taken pics of that stuff yet). Now for some pictures...

Now the only colour I have tried so far is Encouragement and it was super sheer. It would probably make a great French Manicure colour.

God all this hauling it tiring. Unfortunately there is more... and we haven't even got to my birthday stuff yet.

An experiment with China Glaze Crackle Polishes.

I recently ordered 3 of China Glaze's crackle polishes in the shades -Black Mesh, Fault Line and Crushed Candy. And yes that is my camera cord in the shot but it was also my best one so just ignore it please lol.

I had a very feeble first attempt with Black Mesh

 

After this I wasn't sure what to think... apart from DISAPPOINTED. So I decided to do an experiment. Being a complete nerd I have swatched a lot of my colours on nail wheels and I decided to sacrifice my Ulta 3 one for the cause.

Notice how much better these turned out... I sure did! I am actually wondering if cheaper nail polish underneath is better because ALL of these had more crackle than my fingers and they were all applied by brushing from middle to edge. It also gives a great insight into what the base colour needs to be for the crackle to really look good. My favourite is 4th from the right - purple with orange polish underneath.

Has anyone else been enjoying crackle time? How have your creations worked out?

Clearing the backlog NOTD x 3

Ok I am soooooooo behind on my swatching so here are a couple of complete stunners that have been gracing my nails recently. After that is an extremely average attempt at crackling.

NOTD: China Glaze AHOY!

 

Now this is more like it! AHOY! (their punctuation not mine) is a completely fabulous raspberry colour with some super pretty gold shimmer thrown in. This colour is one of the 3 polishes I picked up from China Glaze's Anchors Away collection and I love it. 

Despite having a larger than average nail polish collection I don't own many berry or red shades, which I found puzzling after realising how flattering these colours are on my skin tone. I honestly think it is because of those hideously long fake nails of the 80s that had blight colours in hot pink and magenta - you know what I mean right? Anyway THIS polish is NOT one of those.

CG is back to formula perfection with this and the other colour I have tried (Sea Spray - which chipped after waiting the best part of a week for me to get around to photographing it). This dried quickly and was opaque in 2 coats (maybe even one but I can't be 100% sure on that). What I can say writing this on Saturday night is that this polish has lasted a week of work with no tip chips and just some very minor peeling away at the cuticle. I'm impressed.

I'm almost tempted to have this one again this week but I have First Mate to try - as well as Sea Spray to try and get a pic of as well. BTW Sea Spray is so beautiful. It's one of those lovely shades that took me a couple of days to work out if I even I liked it. 

NOTD: China Glaze Peace on Earth

 

I picked up a few extra China Glaze Christmas 2010 colours after being so impressed with Mistletoe kisses, Sugar Plums and Frosty. This shade is called Peace on Earth and immediately caught my attention being an olive green. Unfortunately for me this one came off as a miserable yellow-green rather than the rich olive green I had hoped for. The pictures shown all have 2 coats with no top coat.

Let's start with the good, this polish is very opaque, I could have got away with 1 coat. Now the bad - thick formula, shows brush lines slightly when dry, completely unforgiving of any nail imperfections like ridges (which I have) and not good for us pale people at all. I am sorry to say this colour was not my cup of tea... but for those of you who aren't so pale like me...I suspect it would look stunning. I must also apologise for my cuticles in these shots... dry summer hands.

I removed it after 1 day - in fact I think it looks better in the photos than it did in real life. That one is going straight to the back of the nail polish box. A complete colour fail. lol

NOTD: China Glaze Atlantis

While on holidays I have been wearing my more offensive/non-corporate nail colours. I do wear these ones while at work - but sometimes I feel the need to hide my nails lol. In the spirit of look-at-me nails have a look at Atlantis.

I have been lusting after this colour ever since I saw a swatch by Stefanie of the Lip Print. All pictures below are with 2 coats and a top coat (the finish is a little rough being a glitter so I used a top coat to make it smoother).
